Frequently Asked Questions

Is mmHg the same as torr?

For most practical purposes, yes. 1 mmHg ≈ 1 torr. The tiny difference arises from their formal definitions, but in this calculator they use the same conversion factor.

What is a bar and how is it related to atmospheric pressure?

A bar is 100,000 Pa, slightly less than 1 atmosphere (101,325 Pa). 1 bar is roughly the atmospheric pressure at sea level and is commonly used in meteorology and engineering.
